Two blackbirds
alighted high up today
on a newfangled television antenna
on the neighbor's roof,
for all to see
and sat there preening
in light rain,
when one nudged the other
exchanging glances
that made feathers ruffle
as if about to come closer,
or was it to inquire
about the day's agenda,
before he flies off
and leaves her there,
alone and wet,
straining to see
where he was headed.
