Two blackbirds
alighted high up today
on a newfangled TV antenna
on the neighbor's roof
and sat there preening
in liight rain
for all to see,
when one nudged the other
exchanging glances
that made their feathers ruffle
as if to come closer—
or was it but to inquire
about the day's agenda
before he flies off
and leaves her there
alone, uncared for,
straining to see
where he had flown off to.
